For many years it has been known as the Rider-Waite-Smith, Waite-Smith, Waite-Colman Smith or simply the Rider deck. The images were drawn by artist Pamela Colman Smith, to the instructions of A.E. Waite and published by the Rider Company. The images are deceptively simple, almost child like, the detailed background holds a wealth of symbolism. 78 card tarot deck. The cards, including the 56 Minor Arcana, depict full scenes with figures and symbols. This feature has made the Rider-Waite Tarot the basis for the designs of many century decks.

A youthful figure, looking intently at the pentacle which hovers over his raised hands. He moves slowly, insensible of that which is about him.

Divinatory Meanings: Application, study, scholarship, reflection another reading says news, messages and the bringer thereof; also rule, management.

Reversed: Prodigality, dissipation, liberality, luxury; unfavorable news.

 

Knight of Pentacles

He rides a slow, enduring, heavy horse, to which his own aspect corresponds. He exhibits his symbol, but does not look therein.

Divinatory Meanings: Utility, serviceableness, interest, responsibility, rectitude-all on the normal and external plane.

Reversed: inertia, idleness, repose of that kind, stagnation; also placidity, discouragement, carelessness.
